Caitie contacted me in the Fall last year about shooting her wedding in January. I had taken engagement photos for her cousin just a few weeks before and it went so well, he was so nice, I thought YES! another chance to work with awesome people in the family. We didn’t get the chance the meet ahead of time which is always a recipe for nerves for me but I knew I wouldn’t do the one thing I always hope I NEVER do-forget a bride or groom’s name (it’s happened once or twice before and it’s just the worst feeling there is…). When you have the same first name it makes it easy to remember 😊. Caitie and Alex have been together for ten years. It was one of those weddings where it doesn’t feel like a union of two families (although of course, it is) because they’ve known each other so long there isn’t a lot of newness. That being said however, there’s a ton of “new” when you get to finally call someone your husband, or call someone your wife. It’s a familiar person, familiar feelings and sights and scents but a totally new pride in the label you get to wear. I always love seeing how a Mr. and Mrs. wear that “new”. Caitie and Alex could not wipe the smiles from their faces and it was infectious. They threw a great party, had many family and friends come up to the mic during the reception to sing them love songs (or Smelly Cat, lol) and tell stories about them in exchange to witness a kiss from the newlyweds. When “We Are Family” started playing the dance floor was swarmed and everyone celebrated what it means to be family with this new family of two that has just begun. It was a wonderful way to start 2018 and reminded me of how lucky I am to share the very first day these new families spend together- wedding day.
