Kate + Steve | Tyrol Basin Wedding | Mt. Horeb, WI

I’ve been looking forward to this wedding for some time because I knew it was going to be nothing but a damn good time. Kate and Steve are wonderful. I’ve known Steve for awhile (we took senior pics waaaay back in the day) and I met Kate after Steve and I met to talk about photography and their wedding. I’ve gotten the chance to know them better through various sessions, talking all things photo and video over beers and shooting alongside them while they do their video work at weddings- shout out SRTFilms! Every time I see them I’m smiling because they are so incredibly happy together. It’s infectious to say the least. I don’t know if I’ve ever put together a wedding preview album with as many giant and genuine smiles from the couple. Their day began at Steve’s family’s farmhouse. The boys kept separate from the girls while Steve tied his bowtie and Kate slipped into her dress, which was about 90% made from materials from her grandmothers’ wedding dresses. It was gorgeous and amazing that it held such history in the stiches. They had a first look on the property, the very spot they had camped years before and first told each other, “I love you”. The day was kind of like that- peppered with these personal notes and histories and unique touches. They said their I dos at ELC in Mt. Horeb and then they drove themselves to their reception at Tyrol Basin. The weather was ideal and their guests got to ride the chairlift, take in the views and enjoy the warm summer night. Speeches touched on the history of their relationship, how happy and complete they make one another and how thrilled their loved ones are that they found the perfect partner. They danced to what may be considered an unconventional love song, had their bridal party break it down during the short drum break and from that point on it was nothing but party mode full force. One of my favorite parts of the day came when Kate was dancing with her dad. Steve grabbed the camera from his videographer and began to film the dance, you know, just “doing his job”. It was so cute and touching, I found myself getting choked up by the gesture. Kate returned the favor and filmed Steve and his mom. It was the best. When nighttime fell there were many trips made to their amazingly quaint photobooth and lots of smores toasted and tossed back. What an epic day of just pure happiness and palpable love. I feel so honored to be a witness to days like this. Special thanks to Destiny D. Photography for coming along with me to capture all these joyous moments! Thank you, Kate + Steve. You are the epitome of wedded bliss. I have so much love for ya, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson! xoxo
